Trail Fail

So, Sunday I got to ride in ambulance. A friend who has taken up running and signed up for a trail run was out at the park Sunday running and got overheated and possible a case of heat exhaustion. Her husband and I went to rescue her, but not realizing how far on the trail she was, or how long it would take to get back... we didn't really go in prepared. I was wearing jeans and a black shirt, and we only took water for her to drink (and not a ton at that). She was about a mile or so in on the trail and it was 100+ with a fuck ton of humidity. Like it has been nearly every day recently.

I was near passing out myself on the way back. We called the park rangers, hoping they might be able to drive us up to my car. Instead, they automatically dispatched an ambulance. I tried to tell them we didn't want that, but once it's out, it's out. They were nice enough however to drive us back to the car (no charge). But still huge mess. And I felt like a horrible rescuer for also feeling poorly.

I took a good nap when I got back home because my brain felt fried. However, I still have blisters on my feet for not having on good shoes. (Trail fail.)

Oh man, I can sympathize. But I'm glad everyone is okay, even if a bit worn by it all. <3

Glad everyone made it out okay. Sounds like a war rescue, almost.

But you're a good friend for at least attempting a rescue. :)
