Rubberband Combo

This weekend was the St. Louis trip to take classes from Ariellah. A good time was had - though really cold, and though it was a decent enough event, when Sunday classes rolled around, I did not have the brain for it at all. It was too cold and I was too tired. It makes me a little concerned about PAX East this weekend - it's my third travel weekend in a row, and I don't want to be too tired to enjoy myself. So, I need to get plenty of rest this week to prepare.

The show this weekend was very interesting. There was a good mix of performance types, I got to see a dancer I'd heard a bunch about but ended up not liking at all. I got to see Ariellah perform, and though it wasn't my favorite performance of hers, she did not disappoint. There were also a few really stand out performances from dancers that I'd never seen before - like this crazy amazing hip-hop number from a girl from Springfield, MO. I don't know if it's because Ariellah and Tempest were there or not, but there were several really unfortunately over-acted numbers that could've been good if they'd been toned down. It also really really made me wish that I had my solo number together already. I feel like I might not be a great dancer but in several instances I felt like I wasn't any worse or perhaps am capable of putting on a better performance than several of the dancers that were up there. And it would been a good chance to dance in front of a crowd that doesn't know me. I'll know better for next time. I feel like I just need to work on getting my solo ready and taking a chance somewhere (other than here) to perform it.

Even though I wasn't really up for the classes on Sunday, by sitting through miichelle's class I got some good ideas for dance things I need to improve upon. So it was worth the experience, even if I wasn't physically up for it.

duendegrrl and I actually left early, hoping to catch Matt in time that he could pick us up right after lunch with his family. While we waited for him, we walked about two blocks from the studio space to a little sock store called "Sock it to Me". Socks were a dollar and together we spent about twenty bucks on socks and legwarmers. The owner was super nice and not only gave us two pairs (a pair each) for free, but also paid our taxes. So that was worth the cold walk.

After shopping, we walked across the street to a piano bar called Keypers to get a drink and a snack while we continued waiting for Matt. We had some really yummy fried chicken and zucchini strips. However, after we were there for about five minutes, duendegrrl and I sort of simultaneously realized we'd stumbled into some sort of conservative gay bar. The men were your sort of blue collar type of guys and the decor was really understated. It was kind of bizarre.

We made it home earlier than planned and after dropping duendegrrl at home, Matt and I watched some TV and then crashed.

Friday night, before this whole whirlwind St. Louis dancestraveganza, Matt and I went up to Nebraska Furniture Mart and purchased an awesome loft bed, mattress and carpet for the future adopted child's bedroom. The bed is an amazingly cool loft bed on top, with a bookcase/shelving area on one side underneath and wall pockets and a picture frame on the other side. It's going to take up a lot of space in the room, but it'll be super cool. It's also got this slats that are removable but paintable, so when we get this potential future child, we'll be able to let them personalize them, which is awesome.

We heard from our worker late Friday night, that she's passed our information on to the kid's worker, so now it's just a matter of waiting until the kid's worker gets back to our worker on whether they think we're a good match for her or not. So *fingers crossed* that she thinks we're a good match.

It was so nice to see you! I wish we could have chatted more! I also wish it had been warmer!

No kidding! I think my brain just stopped working when it got cold. Even in Ariellah's class on Saturday, I couldn't get warm enough -- even dancing around. I don't think I've ever done a whole class in a long-sleeve shirt and hoodie before. :)
