Writing Rush with Deadlines Looming

I work so much better under a deadline. I'm still a big old procrastinator, but at the current rate, I have no doubt I'll be able to get this massive 25k story for scifibigbang done by the end of the month so it can be shipped off to my beta. I'm thinking I might ask for a few extra days so I can fiddle with it during the downtimes at GenCon.

See, Matt and I went and snagged one of those USB WiFi things from the Sprint store on Friday. So now, in theory, my little netbook will have WiFi wherever I go. This pleases me to no end. And makes me excited about the prospects at both GenCon and PAX when I don't have to rely on convention or hotel access - which is always expensive, spotty or both.

The same time my scifibigbang story is due, so is the story for femgenficathon. This story is 3/4 of the way done, but I'm not really happy with it at the moment. Both are Dragon Age stories, so while I'm working on the bigger one, I'm letting the little one sort of simmer for a bit. I'm thinking I might scrap my idea (technically the second one I'm scrapping for this story) and starting over (again). OH! I think I may have just had an epiphany about it! It does mean starting over, but I'll be able to use bits of the first plan & bits of the larger scifibigbang story so it should go pretty quickly. I like it - now I just need to find the right theme.

Once those are done, then it'll be time to get cracking on my originalbigbang story, for which at this point I only have vague ideas. But with two stories out of the way, I'll have far more time to crack down on getting it done. Sign-ups are still open by the way - so if you've been thinking about it - check it out!

Original Fiction Big Bang
More Information

Even if none of my stories are well received - it's been a good year for practicing. Hopefully all this will also mean that when NaNoWriMo rolls around, I'll be a bit better prepared this year than I have the past two.

Wow, I absolutely love this idea! I appear to have missed out on the LJ concept of Big Bang, but now that I'm all caught up, I may sign up when there's a next time!

Well, from what I can tell, the writer-signups are finished and now it's just betas & artists & others, no? I might maybe maybe sign up as a beta but I'm sort of concerned at the level of commitment. (I mean, if you're a writer and you bail due to life commitments, it's nowhere near as awful as if you bail as a beta, y'know?)

Yes, it's down to mixers, artists and betas now. Being a beta would be awesome, but yeah, it's a big commitment.

Yeah, definitely mulling it over.
