And Now for something Completely Different

Linkspam Edition:

Poll: 1 in 3 women say pets listen better than husbands. Thank you USA Today for telling pet owners everywhere something we already knew. But, I appreciate that despite the fact there's a man in your story talking about how his crayfish friend listens better than his wife, you still went with a tired gender stereotypical title to draw in readers.

Michael Ian Black is a very famous celebrity - Sarcasm here and there. But I do like his new article at McSweeneys.

GameJournos are Incompetent Fuckwits - I didn't say it, he did. I think our official stand on being called out for something (which there's some technical issues with - as in, it depends on how you're defining 'last' game) is that we'll appreciate the extra hits it gives us and move on. Thankfully, it was a call out on a technicality really, and not on our editing/writing skills which may continue to make me nervous.

Never read The Outlander series, never planning to - but the hornet's nest of fanfic kerfluffle kicked up by Diana Gabaldon is an amazing read. Well, don't read her stuff - but the responses to it about fanfiction's place in the writing world are worth the time. People in fandom, probably already get it. But, if you don't, don't like fanfic, or don't think it's got a place in the world: I've got some links for you.
It begins, Filing off the serial numbers, Dear AotW: It's not about you by bookshop, and kate_nepveu's An open letter to professionally-published authors who despise fanfic of their own works. Thanks to dwg for keeping an eye on the world of silly authors.

The Poster for the new "The Karate Kid"

And how Spiderman, Jedis and The Flash saved an expensive comic from a would-be robber. Awesome.

ETA: Grrr. Is it just me or has the Last.fm submission system been down a lot lately? It seems like I just randomly stop scrobbling tracks all the time recently. :(

I know right? Maybe there's a reason your wife doesn't listen to you dude.

I GOT MY COMICS OFF SPIDEY ON FREE COMIC BOOK DAY. He wasn't dressed as Spidey at the time. But I did have a nice chat with him about Batman and my selections of Free Stuff. It was weird to have it come up on the news. "Hey I know that gu--wait, what. WHAT. OMG. XD"

It's...going to be interesting to see what happens when we get to Gabaldon's Part III of all this. I can probably make some predictions as to how it'll go down, but mostly I hope it doesn't go that way because my f-list is so angry and upset right now. Regardless, it might not cost Gabaldon much in the long run, but her reputation now has a big dent that won't come out.

Yeah, I saw your emails with Trina about it this morning. Like I said, I'm just glad we weren't called out on stupid writing - which is mostly what his other posts seem to be about.
