So, as excited as I was about the weekend and the evening as a whole, I'm pretty unhappy with my performance. I actually hate it, and think it's probably the worst I've done thus far. Overall, it's not that horrible, but I've watched it several times yesterday and today, and the more I watch it, the more things I realize I need to improve on. Which is good, but I was so excited about this performance, and it's disappointing to not really like much of how it turned out. Overall, the first half is better than the second half, and the second half is mostly strong technically speaking - it's a lot of I hate the look of my costume (I have a deep abiding love for the camo-loons I had made, but I don't like how kind of plain the pants/shirt look), I wish I'd worn a different shirt at least. There's a BUNCH of hand issues I'm having with my performance - I didn't realize how lazy I'd gotten with them for the second choreography. And the one thing I hate most of all is the blocking - I'm pretty much blocking out Rebecca (the girl right behind me, obvs.) for most of the second half.

Rationally, I understand that most of this things are tiny and weren't picked up by the audience. With maybe the one exception of my near fall in the second number. We didn't get a dress rehearsal in the space - and it's a small stage - so of course there's going to be lots of spacing issues. Still, it's bugging the hell out of me. When it works, it looks great, but the rest of the time - ugh. Although, I think I'm going to recommend that if we do it again, less of us should be performing that second number - there's too many hand placement issues that make it looks sloppy with different people's variations.

Still, I hates it. But, it's a good challenge for me to share it anyway, and if I wasn't pointing out all the details of what's wrong, most people might not see them anyway. The Virgo in my hates it, though my brain understands how irrational it is of me to do so.

I do also have to admit that I was actually a little nervous with this number. What you don't see is that the music actually starts as soon as I finished our introduction - so I had to crawl on stage (no steps) and get in place in a hurry. PLUS, Amy Sigil of Unmata (She's amazing!) was in the front row, and I always make eye contact with the first few rows during a performance, so I kept catching her out of the corner of my eye.

Oh, yes. Of course what's frustrating is that it's not like this is my first performance or anything - but it is the one I like the least so far.
