New Stuff: Books, Movie & CD

I bought some new stuff over the weekend.  Besides wedding things.  Sunday Matt, Tony and I went to the one day only ComicBook Convention out in Lenexa.  It was only like 10-4, and in a room at a hotel, but it was neat besides all that.  The three of us each walked away with some cheap comics.  Very nice.  We'd originally gone out in the hopes the nice importer people would be there, but alas, no such luck.  Afterwards we went to the Half-Priced book store off Metcalf, which I like, but somedays not as much the other, down in Westport.  I managed to grab the DA: Inquisitor book by White Wolf, I've been interested in their newest round of DA stuff, and since I didn't have any inquistor stuff, I'll be intersted to sit down and flip through it.  I might find some nice stuff to through at our Tuesday group, besides.

By way of regular books, I grabbed two that have been on my list for a while, The Secret Diary of Anne Boleyn by Robin Maxwell, and The True Story of Hansel and Gretel by Louise Murphy.  I've got one or two books left to read before I can get to either of those, but with quick reads like Summers at Castle Auburn by Sharon Shinn (which I started today at lunch) I should be to them in no time.  "Summers" is one of those books I picked up not because I'd heard anything about it, but because I was curious about the author.  Shinn apparently has been around for some time, with quite a few books in an "angel" series.  Not wanting to get deep in a series again yet, I picked up "Summers" to gauge how well I like her writing.  So far, it's a quick and pleasant fantasy read.  Also at some point I ordered the newest book from Kate Forsyth Tower of Ravens.  It was only a dollar or so on Amazon, and I purchased it when I was pre-ordering Sin City.  However, the paperback I ordered turned out to be one of those ginormous paperbacks with a gazillion pages, and almost the size of a notebook.  Much bigger than my normal in-purse-to-work book size.  I'm eager to read it, since I love the world she created, but I'm not sure that it's going to be something I can lug to and from work.  We'll see.

I mentioned I pre-ordered Sin City.  It came out on DVD today, and should be in my mailbox when I get home.  Matt and I were unsure about ordering it, as the Sin City website says it's not coming out until sometime in November.  However, I recieved the email stating that it's shipped, and we saw a commercial last night on TV for it's release today, so I'm pretty confident.  This is the only thing I think I've ever pre-ordered.  And realistically, it wasn't for want of it (although I'm sure Matt wants it) but the fact I knew we'd buy it soon, and I got a really good deal by ordering it early.  So, all in all, a good decision.

Now some people look at me weird when I mention that I'm a member of BMG.  Yeah, that CD/DVD service that mails people constantly.  However I say to those disbelievers that normally, I get a really great deal out of the whole thing.  Anyway, I noticed the other day while I was browsing their online catalogue that I had a few freebies due to me.  So I browsed a bit more indepth.  Coming away with one CD I've wanted to pick up, and another I wasn intersted in, but will be passing on.  The first, is Thornley's Come Again.  I don't really know much about Thornley other than I've been recommended them a few times, and that they're a similar sound to Crossfade, Flaw, RA and others.  That's pretty much all I needed to hear to pick it up.  Plus...free!  The other was the Celtic Woman CD. Yeah, I wasn't impressed with their song selection at the show, but that doesn't really stop me from wanting to hear some of them again.  Like "Ashoken Farewell", or "Walking in the Aire".  So I grabbed it for free, copied it last night, and will pass it on to Matt's mom when I see her tonight at the AnJim's engagement party.

It's almost time to go home.  yippee!!

the Sin City that comes out in Nov might be the super delux nerd edition since the one that came out today has virtually no extra features.

Yeah. That's sorta what I figured. However, both Matt and I are rarely excited about "extras" on DVDs.

omg... music groups like that are just crazy... I joined a long long time ago... and I found the inital cd's I wanted, after that... there was nothing... =.= not a thing... I was always sending stuff back to them, at the end of my contract, I was billed for not purchasing anything.

See that's the weird thing. Everytime I look through their mailers for something new I want, I never find anything. But if I dig deep enough, I can always find several things on their website I'd like to have.

ah, this was way before the web was like it is now. like in the late 80's early 90's.

I browsed the website pretty good before I signed up again. Because yeah, back in the day, there was never anything good in their mailers.

I used to be a member of BMG back in the day but got tired of it and quit. Of course that was way before DVD's came out. I'd probably enjoy it more now.
