My childhood, let me show you it

Monday night, I took my dad (as a father's day gift) to see Yes & Styx in concert.

Let me repeat. YES & STYX.

If you just said, awesome. Then, yes, you would be correct. This show was everything I could've hoped for out of a show like this and more. I mean. It's been years since I've been to a sort of classic rock band type concert. It was 90+ degrees and outside (and not always in the shade) when we first got there, and when the opener (some guy named Shane Alexander) went on. And still, that didn't make it any less awesome.

By the time Yes started, it was all shade, all the time, there was a decent breeze and we had center seats - center from the top down, center from side-to-side. Technically, our seats were further down, but where we ended up sitting was way better (the entire row was empty - that hadn't sold it for tech purposes, and then the tech booths got moved) and had a better breeze. If we had sat in our seats we would've been 10 rows down, at the end of a whole family - complete with little kids and on the inside of a section, so very little breeze. I think we made the right decision.

Also, let me say that while I wanted to see Yes more, and I thought they were amazing... I was totally blown away by Styx. I mean. I like them as a band, but they knocked it out of the park. Just awesome.

So much of the whole show was me sort of looking at my dad and thinking - I remember you playing this for me. Or I remember singing this with you. Or I remember you playing this in your old truck when we were driving around town. Just memories that we don't share often.

My dad gave me the love for music that I have. I believe that. And it's been YEARS since we've been to a concert together. Probably since before I graduated college. So, to have this with him, was pretty cool.

That would have been a hell of a concert! Glad you got to enjoy it and revisit some special times in the bargain.

As I said, it was pretty amazing. I didn't know what to expect and was very pleasantly surprised by both bands.
