Scheduling for 2011

So, I'm trying to figure out where I'm going this year - and for what. Thankfully, there's a bunch of stuff over weekends, which means less time trying to figure out how much I can take off work. Especially right now, the last thing I want to worry about is having time off work.

Tentatively I'm looking at a few bellydance events and a few gaming events. Though, as the year progresses, I expect this list to grow a bit. For now, here's what I have:

January 14th - 16th - Weekend in Rokugan (here in KC) is the L5R weekend for the new campaign
January 21st - 23rd - KC Startup Weekend, I'd like to do this, but I teach one day, and it's more expensive than it has been in the past.

February 26th - Iowa Bellydance event (duendegrrl is teaching) - just the one day

March 3-5th - Angels & Absinthe Darkwave Bellydance event in St. Louis - will be there Saturday & Sunday
March 11th - 13th - PAX East (Penny Arcade Expo) in Boston - travelling Thursday the 10th, leaving Sunday

May 7th - Warrior Weekend (Saturday Only this year) here in KC. I'll be the MC for the Saturday evening show. No big name bellydancer, it's all local teachers (some really awesome ones). AND I'm going to teach a class on music exercises (listening to the beat, so to speak), which I'm excited about.

June 6th - 9th - E3 in Los Angeles - the best 5 days in video gaming. I skipped last year for a few reasons, but I'm making it a priority this year. Unfortunately, it's 5 full days off work, which SUCKS vacation day wise. But I'll make it work.

August 4th - 7th - GenCon Indy - the best 4 days in Gaming (non-video gaming that is)
August 26th - 28th - PAX Prime - I'm unhappy that they've moved this up a weekend, because it means that the Monday following isn't a holiday. That means I either go right back to work, or take a vacation day Monday to recover (which I'll probably need).

And at some point in 2011 Geek Girl Con is supposed to happen up in Seattle. GamingAngels is going to sponsor the Con, and we're going to try and have as many of us there as possible.

Gencon indy.. *chuckles* Not far from me, and yet *another* person I know going. If it weren't for the insane price of hotels, I'd so be there.

The prices are really only insane if you're staying right next to the Con. For the past two years, my husband and I have stayed about 15 minutes down the road, and it's been normally priced for a hotel. If you're driving (we drive from KC) it's a nice way to go.

Hmm. How much are you spending then, if you don't mind me asking? One of my friends was quoting like $125 a night if you're a few blocks out.

I don't know Indy well, so I don't know how driving or parking is, or anything like that. We'd definitely be driving. We're up in MI, right near the Indiana border.

I can't remember the name of the place we stayed, I think it was a Wyndham and we had a nice suite with a jacuzzi for like $79 a night. I'm pretty sure they have smaller rooms for less. I think it was near the airport, right off the highway. Like I said, it's like 15 minutes away (if you're driving) but it's a decent place.

Oooh. See, now that is not bad, especially if they have rooms with two beds and the housemate shares. Hmmm.

And the driving to get there, and the parking, isn't insane?

Driving to get to the Con is a straight shot from the hotel to the Con pretty much, although right near the convention center can be a little weird. The mall next door has a giant connected parking garage. I can get expensive to park, but if you stay all day, it's worth it to be parked nearby.

Hmmm. Thanks for all the info! Might give going more serious thought then!

I'm definitely gonna check out the Geek Girl con to see what that's about.

Also, when you come for PAXW, we really need to get together!

They don't have dates set yet, but they're having regular meetings in Seattle to try and figure things out. Depending on when the dates get settled, I'm definitely going to try and go.

We do! When it gets closer to August, we can make plans. The 28th is my birthday, so I want to do something fun Sunday before leaving. :)

They set the dates yesterday! I got buttons and cards I want to mail you; I don't know what you might do with them, but I thought you could use them. I'm thinking of sending my Oregon friend who runs www.thediscriminatingfangirl.com/ some of them, too.

Dude, how did I miss that they set dates? Thanks!! I don't know what I'd do with them either, but I'm sure I could find a use for them. :)
