Christmas Gifts & Secret Santa

Since there's so many kids on my mom's side of the family - like 15 or 17 grandchildren and greatgrandchildren (I can't keep count) or something like that, we've started doing white elephant exchanges during our Christmas gettogethers (Google says this is not a word. Hrrm.) Anyhow, so we bring a girl gift or boy gift depending on our gender and then put the gifts in a pile and grab a different girl or boy gift for ourselves. I never know what to do do, so this year I knit stuff. There's a hat and neck warmer and knit flower for the girl, and a cool pair of mittens for a guy. My mom has decided to do the same thing at her house this year, so I made a cool hat with a knit flower for that one. I still need to a guys hat for that one.

I've made two capelet/shrug type things for gifts, one of them was for <ljuser="duendegrrl"> who got her gift early when she got her new job recently. The second one is for my SIL, and I need to finish all the little bits for that one. I was going to make her a pair of socks or slippers, but all my plans for those backfired and I gave up and did the shrug, which I like better anyway. I had planned a pair of slippers or socks for my MIL also, but Matt and his sister ended up going together on a big present for their parents, so I'm off the hook for that if I want to be. I wasn't liking how the are turning out anyway.

That still leaves my Dad & Sherri and Mom & John due gifts, my grandfather and a few more friends. I need to get something together for my Mom & John first since we're doing Christmas with them this weekend. My brother Matt, his wife and their two kids (with one on the way) are in town this evening and leaving before Christmas. We're also doing Christmas with my grandparents this weekend, and I teach both Saturday & Sunday, so I'm not going to have a lot of time at home this weekend.

Instead of finishing the gifts I have to finish though, I've been working on a project for myself. A knitting friend and I have decided to make ourselves February Lady Sweaters (modified Elizabeth Zimmerman pattern). I have hopes I might even finish it before February. :) So far it's slow going, but it's a relatively easy beginning, just a lot of stitches. I'd much rather be working on it than finishing Christmas presents. When I do finish it though, it'll be the first finished garment I've ever made just for me, and I'm kind of excited about that prospect.

There are 6 days until <lj user="yuletide"> and <lj user="swooping_is_bad"> Secret Swooper items are due. I haven't even started my <lj user="yuletide"> story (though I have an idea of what I'm going to do) and I just picked up a pinch-hit story today. Good times. In theory, I could do a fanmix instead of a story for my secret Swooper gift. I'll have to think about it a bit more.

I'm also organizing a sort of last minute Secret Santa thing at the SWG (Sims) Forum where I'm a moderator. We did one last year, and I really enjoyed putting together the banner I made, so hopefully we get a few participants this year. :)
